Man Pleads Not Guilty in Officer’s Murder

Roger Hoan Brady, accused of killing a Manhattan Beach police officer in front of the officer’s nephew nearly three years ago, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of murder with special circumstances.
After his arraignment Tuesday in Inglewood Municipal Court, he was ordered to return to court Oct. 8 when the judge will set a preliminary hearing date, the district attorney’s office said.
Brady, 30, was extradited in August from Oregon, where he is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole for the 1994 shooting death of a 55-year-old woman.
Manhattan Beach police believe that Brady used the same .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the Oregon killing that was used eight months earlier when Brady allegedly gunned down Officer Martin Ganz, 29, who reportedly pulled Brady over on a routine traffic stop near the Manhattan Village shopping mall while the officer’s 14-year-old nephew was on a ride-along.
