Officials Approve New Traffic Study

Share

A series of recent City Council decisions could affect the future shape of some of the city’s streets.

The Moorpark council voted Wednesday night to conduct a traffic study at the intersection of Peach Hill and Spring roads. Traffic at the spot often slows to a crawl during rush hours, a problem the city anticipates could worsen with the construction of more housing in the area.

The city will study traffic capacity at the intersection and prepare several design alternatives for adding another lane to Peach Hill Road.

Council members also reaffirmed a decision reached earlier this year not to extend Unidos Avenue east of its current terminus at Juarez Avenue. The council voted to keep the road at its current 32-foot width, with a 48-foot right of way, and rejected a proposal to study the building of housing at the road’s eastern end.

Council members also approved spending an additional $1,000 on construction at the intersection of Poindexter and Moorpark avenues. The money will pay for relocating several electrical conduits that connect the traffic signals at Poindexter Avenue and High Street. The entire construction project, designed to widen Moorpark Avenue, was originally expected to cost $35,000.
