Offering a close-up look at the men and women who patrol the northwestern San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles Police Department will host a four-hour open house at its Devonshire Division headquarters in Northridge today.

Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the annual event is free and open to the public, said Sgt. Bill Thomas, head of the division’s community relations office.

“This is an opportunity to really mingle with us,” he said, adding that it provides a positive interaction with police officers that many people seldom have.

In addition to tours of the station, the department will offer displays of its law enforcement arsenal, including exhibits from the K-9 unit, SWAT team, mounted and helicopter units. Also on display will be antique automobiles and the LAPD racing team’s souped-up Camaro, Thomas added.

A $3 tri-tip plate with soft drink will be served as well as a hot dog and soft drink for $1.25. The Devonshire Division station is located at 10250 Etiwanda Ave.
