David Hackworth to Speak, Sign Books

Col. David Hackworth, a contributing editor at Newsweek Magazine who is perhaps best known for his expose of top Navy Adm. Jeremy Boorda, will speak and sign copies of his latest book during a luncheon in Camarillo on Wednesday.

Boorda is the former chief of naval operations who committed suicide earlier this year amid allegations that he wore medals of valor he did not earn. He was scheduled to be interviewed by Newsweek’s Washington bureau chief the day he killed himself.

In his book, “Hazardous Duty: America’s Most Decorated Living Soldier Reports from the Front and Tells It the Way It Is,” Hackworth talks about his relentless pursuit of Boorda. He said he stopped printing of his book to add a chapter titled “Did I Kill Admiral Boorda?”

The lunch, sponsored by the World Affairs Council, will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo. Cost is $18 for World Affairs Council members, $25 for nonmembers and $28 at the door.
