Slight Cooling Trend in a Warm Week Seen
Not that residents of the San Fernando Valley would really notice it, but weather forecasters are predicting a cooling trend this week.
“It’s going to be very slight,” said John Henderson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Temperatures across the Valley today will be in the mid-90s but will gradually drop 4 degrees by Thursday.
Although a high-pressure system continues to dominate the area, a wave of low pressure is expected to roll through the region in the upper atmosphere starting Tuesday.
High-pressure systems typically block out rain, clouds and cooling effects. When they sit on top of an area, residents can bake in the heat.
The new wave of low pressure will depress the high-pressure system and push it slightly to the south and east, giving Valley residents a little relief, Henderson said. The low-pressure system is also expected to bring some early morning low clouds and fog into the Valley by expanding the coastal marine layer.
High temperatures for today are expected to be 95 in Northridge and Burbank, 94 in Woodland Hills and 93 in Van Nuys.
