Couple Honored for Community Service

Cal Lutheran University’s Community Leaders Club has named Thousand Oaks residents Jerry and Mary Knotts as recipients of the 1996 William E. Hamm Outstanding Service Award.

The annual award for community service was presented last week during the Community Leaders Club’s annual kickoff dinner.

Jerry Knotts, president of the Conejo Valley Historical Society and the Westlake Village Cultural Foundation, has served in the past as president of Cal Lutheran’s Community Leaders Club for two years. He is also a charter member of the Conejo Valley chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.

Mary Knotts is a member of the Conejo Valley Historical Society, the Conejo Valley chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Conejo Valley Genealogy Society.

The Knottses have played key roles in events such as the Conejo Valley Days annual auction and the Mathews Management Forum.

The William E. Hamm Outstanding Service Award is named in honor of a former vice president at Cal Lutheran who contributed to the development of the university and the betterment of Thousand Oaks and other communities in the Conejo Valley.

Cal Lutheran’s Community Leaders Club also presented an honorary lifetime membership to Warde Dixon of Tucson . A former Thousand Oaks resident, Dixon served two terms as president of the Community Leaders Club and was a supporter of Cal Lutheran’s athletic program.
