Lectures to Focus on Cultural Diversity
Cal Lutheran University has scheduled two free lectures focusing on cultural diversity and education for September as part of its “Searching for Common Ground” fall series.
The first, “Criss-Crossing Cultures: Enacting the Promise of Plurality,” at 10:05 a.m. Monday will be presented in Cal Lutheran’s Samuelson Chapel by James Sauceda, an associate professor of speech communication at Cal State Long Beach.
Sauceda, a third-generation Mexican-American, is the founding director of the Multicultural Center at Cal State Long Beach and the author of numerous articles on intercultural communications.
The second lecture, “Educating for Common Ground,” presented by Cal State Northridge President Blenda Wilson, will be held at 10:05 a.m. Sept. 23 in Cal Lutheran’s Preus-Brandt Forum.
Wilson was assistant dean of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education from 1972 to 1982 and served as the chancellor of the University of Michigan in Dearborn before taking the helm at CSUN in 1992.
