Owner of Valley Car Dealership Reappointed to Police Panel
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday unanimously confirmed the reappointment of San Fernando Valley businessman Bert Boeckmann to the Police Commission.
In a brief routine hearing Wednesday, council members asked no questions of Boeckmann, a prominent supporter of Mayor Richard Riordan and an individual who has poured thousands of dollars into local political campaigns.
City officials last month sent Boeckmann a notice that his North Hills car dealership, Galpin Ford, owed more than $11,000 in unpaid parking tickets. This week, however, city officials said most of the 249 unpaid tickets actually belonged to people who had purchased cars from Galpin, one of the largest Ford dealerships in the nation, and failed to promptly change the registration.
The city is still reviewing 72 of the tickets, which carry fines of $3,206, to determine whether the dealership owes the money.
Boeckmann served on the commission under Mayor Tom Bradley and was reappointed by Riordan in 1993.
