Air Force Orbits Satellite

A McDonnell Douglas Delta 2 rocket thundered into orbit Thursday carrying a $55-million Air Force navigation satellite.

The satellite was placed into a 12,000-mile circular orbit about 25 minutes after it left Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It is the second of a new generation of Global Positioning System satellites and will replace an aging satellite in orbit.
