Blake Remains Hospitalized

King defenseman Rob Blake, hospitalized Thursday for treatment of an infection in his right elbow, said Friday the swelling had subsided but he expects to remain on intravenous medication for several more days at Montreal General Hospital.

“My elbow is still pretty bad. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here,” said Blake, who will watch from his hospital bed tonight when his Canadian teammates play the United States in the World Cup final at the Molson Centre.

An elbow infection also knocked St. Louis Blues defenseman Al MacInnis out of the tournament, and the Blues announced this week he will be idled a month. However, Blake said his infection had been caught early, and if all goes well he might miss no more than a week of the Kings’ training camp.
