Cooler Weather Expected This Week
While autumn does not officially begin until next week, San Fernando Valley residents will be enjoying cooler weather for a few days--with high temperatures in the 70s and 80s--this week.
“I guess it could be seasonal,” said Dedric Walker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “There’s a trough coming in from the Northwest.”
The trough, an area of low-pressure air that moved out of the Gulf of Alaska, has brought cooler air and more clouds to the region. The low-pressure trough is also creating an onshore flow of air that brings moisture inland from the ocean.
“You’re generally looking at below-normal temperatures across the Valley, probably for the next few days,” said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist with WeatherData, another weather service.
But no precipitation is predicted for Southern California.
Starting Wednesday, after the low-pressure trough moves through the region, residents will see a slight warming trend as an offshore flow--moving from warmer inland areas to the ocean--begins. Brack described it as a slight chance of Santa Ana winds. But the warm winds would probably only raise temperatures to normal levels for this time of year--the mid-80s to 90s.
For today, high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
