A man held up an Oxnard bank Monday morning, escaping with an undetermined amount of cash, authorities said.

The holdup took place about 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust branch in the 2300 block of North Oxnard Boulevard, said Gary Auer, an FBI special agent.

The robber was described as a Latino in his early 20s, 5-foot-6, 155 pounds, with short, black hair. He was wearing a Dallas Cowboys cap, a maroon, long-sleeve flannel shirt, tennis shoes, long white socks and baggy dark shorts, Auer said.

Witnesses said the robber had a tattoo on the right side of his neck and another behind his left ear, authorities said.

After entering the bank, the man handed a teller a note stating that he had a weapon, however no weapon was shown, Auer said.

The teller gave the man the cash and he then escaped on foot into a nearby apartment complex, Auer said.

It was the 36th bank robbery in Ventura County in 1996, compared with 25 at this time last year, Auer said.

The county ended 1995 with 50 bank robberies, Auer said.
