Brunt of West’s Storm Expected to Spare O.C.

The thick fog and heavy drizzle that had coastal cities socked in Monday morning will be back today and Wednesday, but Orange County will escape the downpours and gusty winds that an upper-level storm has inflicted on much of the West, forecasters said.

A deep marine cloud layer will be the worst that Orange County will get from the large storm system sweeping from the Pacific Coast to the Rocky Mountains.

“The skies will be mostly sunny for the rest of the week except for patchy fog near the coast at morning and night, and maybe weak offshore winds,” said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist with WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

As a high-pressure system pushes into Northern California today, Southern California will get offshore breezes from the north to northeast, rather than the typical westerly direction, Brack said. Orange County can expect winds of 10 to 20 mph through Thursday.

The county’s highest temperature Monday was 79 degrees in Dana Point. Other highs were 77 in Santa Ana, 75 in Anaheim and 70 in Newport Beach.

Today’s temperatures are expected to be in the high 70s near the coast and in the low 80s inland. Temperatures will rise slightly through the week, according to WeatherData.
