Investigators have arrested a 17-year-old Newbury Park boy on suspicion of attempting to rob an automatic teller machine at a Bank of America branch on Reino Road.

Officials were called to the scene when an alarm was triggered at the bank at 177 N. Reino Road about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday.

When Ventura County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found that the service door to the machine had been pried open. Investigators heard sounds coming from within the small room, and the suspect emerged a short time later carrying a pry bar, officials said.

Authorities said the suspect was unable to retrieve any cash from the machine.

The boy, whose name was withheld by investigators because of his age, was arrested without incident and is awaiting charges at a juvenile detention center, authorities said.
