Man Beaten in Park in Critical Condition
Police have arrested a man on charges of beating and critically injuring another man in Plaza Park.
The victim, Ronald Coke, 49, of Oxnard, was listed Tuesday in critical condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, officials said.
Police said that an officer on routine patrol at 5th and A streets about 2 p.m. Monday witnessed a man strike the victim on the head with his fist.
Coke fell to the ground, hitting his head on the sidewalk and suffering severe injuries.
Tommy Nevares, 37, was arrested on suspicion of assault with great bodily injury.
Witnesses told investigators that the attack stemmed from an argument the two men had earlier in the day.
