Huntington Police Check Baby’s Death

Share

The body of a newborn was found Tuesday lying next to her mother, who was “barely conscious,” police said.

Police said they believe the 35-year-old mother, Patricia Tygert, had delivered the baby girl about 2:30 p.m. in her two-story home in the 9000 block of Santiago Drive. She was eight-months pregnant and was home alone, police said.

The family’s phone had been disconnected because Tygert and her 55-year-old boyfriend, Dantie Price, were preparing to leave for Arkansas, where the couple live part of the year, police said.

More than an hour after the delivery, Price arrived home from work and found the mother and newborn on the floor, Police Lt. Bruce Kelly said.

“At this point, it doesn’t appear there were any trauma to the child or any kind of criminal activity involved,” Kelly said. “But the investigation is ongoing.”

The mother was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where she was reported in satisfactory condition Tuesday night, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled today to determine how the baby died.
