Ventura County veterans will be honored today for their service in foreign wars in the fourth annual Massing of the Colors ceremony.

The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Ventura County Government Center and will include participants from the American Legion Posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars and reserves from the Port Hueneme Navy Base.

The event, which is open to the public, will also feature music from an Army band, a state flag team and color guards.

“It is a service of remembering those who have died for our country,” said Supervisor Frank Schillo, who plans to speak at the ceremony. “We need to look at our roots and recognize that people have died for our freedoms. Those freedoms would have been trampled upon if those wars had not been fought.”
