In 1967, Giamela opened her first Giamela’s on Riverside Drive in Burbank. The family now operates nine restaurants throughout Los Angeles County.
“Initially, she ran the whole operation--from doing the cooking to formulating the recipes,” her son said, adding that Giamela never retired.
“She was always a go-getter, a very hard worker.”
Giamela was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, branch #101, the Jocelyn Center, the Keystone Club and the Altar Society at St. Finbar Church.
In addition to her son Bill, Giamela is survived by two other sons, John Giamela of Granada Hills and Edward Giamela of Burbank; a sister, Florence Mangino of Boundbrook, N.J.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
