Adjusting Klima Likes Exhibitions Now

Most veterans hate playing exhibition games, but left wing Petr Klima is eager to be in the Kings’ lineup. So far, Coach Larry Robinson is obliging him, and the six-time 30-goal scorer produced his first goal in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

“I want to get used to the team and the system,” said Klima, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in August for a conditional 1997 draft pick. “We’ve got a lot of new guys, and I’m one of them. It’s going to take some time for us to get comfortable with each other. I think we’ve got a good mix. We’ve got a few older guys and a lot of young guys. If I can help the young guys on and off the ice, I will, but first I want to take my time and settle in.”

Defenseman Mark Astley (injured hip flexor) is week to week, as is left wing Vladimir Tsyplakov (abdominal strain). Right wing Matt Johnson (infected foot) is day to day and defenseman Rob Blake (elbow infection) is improving. Left wing Craig Johnson, who had a sore hip, is available. . . . Center Brent Grieve, recalled from Phoenix of the International Hockey League, will play Tuesday against Dallas.
