Council Approves MetroLink Station
The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve spending $3.3 million to build a permanent MetroLink station in Northridge.
Following the Northridge earthquake in January 1994, a temporary MetroLink station was quickly built on a lot the city leased from the Department of Water in Power in the 8700 block of Wilbur Avenue, according to Francine Oschin, an aide to City Councilman Hal Bernson.
The $3.3 million, which is composed of both state and local transit dollars, will allow the city to purchase the land from the DWP and build the station. Surplus funds, if any, will allow for landscaping, benches and a canopy.
Construction is expected to be begin within two to three months. No disruption of services are anticipated.
