poetry in the Advertising Arts Building will be among the highlights of a free open studio and gallery Artwalk Saturday in Santa Ana. Maps for this self-guided tour of 10 downtown locations--former schools, offices, churches and restaurants that now house an emerging arts community--will be available in the Santora complex lobby.

Pop Music

The Long Beach Day of Music, launched nine years ago by a club owner, gives music lovers a chance to do some purposeful bar-hopping. A single

admission charge covers entry to 10 downtown venues hosting a total of 40 acts throughout the day. This year’s attractions include jazz singer Cassandra Wilson; the Young Dubliners, an Irish-flavored rock band; the Blasters, roots-rock mainstays; Dave Wakeling’s ska-rock band, Bang; Mike Watt’s offbeat, two-bass side project, Dos; and alt-rockers Frosted (with Jane Wiedlin), Ednaswap and Nan Vernon. Schedules detailing who plays where and when will be provided with tickets. Most of the venues are within walking distance of one another, but a free shuttle bus will circle the area. 21 and over.

* Where: Ten locations on Pine Avenue between 3rd Street and Ocean Boulevard. The box office is at 105 W. Broadway, at the corner of Pine.

Events

After a three-year hiatus, Orange Coast College’s student-run powwow is back with a broader focus. This year’s event, hosted by the school’s Native

American Student Organization, has three elements: the traditional powwow with dancing, music, food and crafts representing more than 30 native California tribes; symposiums led by experts on Native American issues; and a gallery exhibit of works by noted Native American artists.

* What: Orange Coast College Powwow.

* When: Saturday, noon-9 p.m.; Sunday, noon-7 p.m. The exhibit continues indefinitely.

Family Affair

The Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum will turn the lush, 26-acre facility into a showcase of Asian art and culture this weekend, with lion dancing, martial arts, calligraphy, brush painting and food.
