Hebert Picks Up Where He Left Off

Goalie Guy Hebert, prone to slow starts in the past, seems primed to start this season the way he finished the last one.

“He’s as sharp as a tack,” Mighty Ducks’ Coach Ron Wilson said. “One thing we noticed right off the bat at the World Cup is that he’s over all his nagging injuries--the ankle, the groin. His lateral mobility right now is incredible.”

Hebert was almost two weeks late to camp because of the World Cup, but after 125 minutes in the net in two exhibition games, he has allowed only three goals.

He’s showing the form he did down the stretch last season, holding opponents to a 1.99 goals-against average with a .937 save percentage as the Ducks went 12-3-2 over the final 17 games.

Mario Lemieux took the Penguins’ morning skate but didn’t play. Lemieux hasn’t played an exhibition game yet but is considered likely to play Pittsburgh’s final two.

A brief, but sudden blackout with 33.5 seconds left in the second period was the result of a power-supply problem originating outside the building, a club spokesman said.

The blackout occurred when the Pond switched to its emergency power supply, but play resumed under power from the main grid after an early intermission.
