CATTLE DRIVE: About 250 cattle will thunder from the San Gabriel Mountains through city streets, herded by hoof-nipping sheep dogs and cowboys on horseback and urged on by knee-slaps and hollers of “yee ha!” But the shouts will come from more than 200 suburbanites as they wrangle the herd through La Verne. The cattle drive, which begins at 9 a.m., will head down Stevens Ranch Road, south to Golden Hills Road, west to Wheeler Avenue, south to Arrow Highway, then east to Gate 15 at the Fairplex by 11 a.m.

WILD WEST: Competitors will get their kicks in novelty events such as “mutton-busting,” where would-be cowpokes clamber onto the backs of runaway sheep and hold on for dear life. Other entertaining events include chuck wagon races, bull riding, steer wrestling, wild horse racing and trick riding at noon today and 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the horse show arena.

ENTERTAINMENT: Rock the night away with The Tokens, the ‘60s doo-wop group known for their hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” The group will perform at 6 and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on the Pepper Street Legends stage.
