University scored the only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, then held off a Woodbridge rally to post a 6-5 nonleague victory Friday night at Irvine High.

University (1-2) moved ahead, 6-5, on a three-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Rossi with 10 minutes 37 seconds left in the game.

Woodbridge threatened to take the lead late in the game. The Warriors advanced the ball to the University 14-yard line with two minutes left, but sophomore Steve Terwiske missed a 31-yard field goal attempt and University got the ball back with 1:40 remaining.

After an incomplete pass and two carries by quarterback Damian Defeo, the Trojans punted.

Woodbridge got the ball back with 1:10 remaining, but three incomplete passes and a quarterback sack (by Matt Kirby) later, University had the ball and the victory with 20 seconds left.

Woodbridge (0-3), which is winless in its last 18 games and has lost nine games in a row, recorded a safety in the first quarter when Defeo, after taking a snap from the Trojan one-yard line, fumbled the ball and fell on it in the end zone.

Woodbridge went ahead, 5-0, when Terwiske hit a 45-yard field goal with 49 seconds left in the half.

Kelvin Murray led University in rushing, gaining 55 yards in 12 carries. Billy Battle led Woodbridge, rushing for 92 yards in 21 carries.
