Lockheed Contamination

Re “Muddying a Contamination Case,” Valley Perspective, Sept. 22.

[The editorial] could be renamed to read “Only Subscribers to the Burbank Leader Allowed to File Against Lockheed,” with a subhead of “And They Should Be Paid Now.” I have lived less then two blocks from Lockheed since the early 1980s but the only notification I received was from the city of Burbank giving dates and times of two separate hearings for the cleanup of Lockheed’s gifts to us--toxic contamination.

Never were those of us closest to this mess told of any legal action against Lockheed or of any options for us to be included in any future cases. We were left with the impression we must each find an attorney and file our own. Should we be excluded because we don’t subscribe to a two-day-a-week publication?

Couldn’t letters or fliers have been sent to addresses within a radius of the pollution? Yes, the people in the suit should be paid now. Hearings should be held and made public as to why Lockheed was allowed to keep this case secret, not who talked to the media. The media can get any information they want. It’s their choice what they print.
