10 Chosen for Lannan Awards

Ten recipients of the eighth annual Lannan Literary Awards were announced Tuesday by the Lannan Foundation.
The awards celebrate excellence in fiction, poetry and nonfiction.
Each of the winners will receive $50,000. They are:
* R.S. Thomas of Wales, lifetime achievement award for poetry.
* Anne Carson of Montreal, for poetry.
* Lucille Clifton of Maryland, for poetry.
* Donald Justice of Iowa, for poetry.
* Howard Norman of Washington, D.C., and Vermont, for fiction.
* Tim Pears of England, for fiction.
* William Trevor of England, for fiction.
* David Foster Wallace of Illinois, for fiction.
* David Abram of New Mexico, for nonfiction.
* Charles Bowden of Arizona, for nonfiction.
The honorees were selected from nominations submitted by a network of writers, literary scholars, publishers and editors. Applications are not accepted. Since 1989, the Lannan Foundation has honored 69 writers with a total of more than $3 million.
