Thousand Oaks’ Juried Arts and Photography Show, sponsored by the city to promote local artists, will take place from Friday to Oct. 27 at the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery.

The exhibit will include about 70 pieces from local artists chosen by a jury from the Thousand Oaks Arts Commission, the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley and some professional artists.

On Friday, jurors will hold a reception and awards ceremony at the gallery, with food and refreshments donated by Bella Luna, a Newbury Park restaurant. They will award first, second, third and honorable mention prizes to the best sculptures, paintings and photographs.

“This area has a strong arts community,” said Arts Commission Chairwoman Karen Lafleur, who is organizing the event. “We created the gallery to help local artists display their works. We do this event to promote the arts and to give the artists a little recognition for their accomplishments.”

The gallery is at 2331-A Borchard Road next to the Newbury Park branch of the Thousand Oaks Library. Its hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. For information, call the gallery at 498-4390.
