A 75-year-old driver and her passenger were injured Wednesday after their car slammed into two parked vehicles, pushing one of them through a garage, authorities said.

The driver, Eve Cremers of Irvine, was taking her mechanic back to his auto shop about 4:30 p.m. when a couple who were standing in their frontyard and admiring their new roof heard screeches, said Gary Stenberg, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.

“They turned around, saw the Volvo coming at them and dove out of the way,” Stenberg said.

The Volvo struck another car and a utility truck parked in the driveway, pushing the car through the garage door and denting the stucco wall.

Cremers was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with a cut on her forehead and other moderate injuries. The passenger, whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Irvine Medical Center, authorities said. The homeowners were not injured.

Investigators said they do not know what caused the accident, and Cremers has not been cited.

“It could have been mechanical, or she could have panicked,” said Susan Meyer, a police accident investigator. “We just don’t know at this point.”
