Campbell Again on Officer Training Panel
Councilwoman Collene Campbell has been reappointed to the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training committee.
Campbell, who has served in the post since 1992, is the first victim of crime to be appointed to the commission, which sets standards for law enforcement training throughout the state.
Her appointment, made by Gov. Pete Wilson, was confirmed by the state Senate on a 40-0 vote.
“If one is forced to endure the so-called justice process, then we should provide that victim with every opportunity to understand the system and its ramifications,” Campbell said.
Her son, Scott, was murdered in 1982, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mickey and Trudy Thompson, were slain in 1988.
Campbell, a national advocate of victim’s rights, serves unpaid on the 12-member committee.
Other Orange County members are Huntington Beach Chief of Police Ronald E. Lowenberg; Placentia Police Chief Manuel Ortega; Michael T. Carre, investigator for the Orange County district attorney’s office; and Deputy Dist. Atty. Devallis Rutledge.
