La Habra’s Early Touchdowns Bury Warren

Showcasing a no-huddle offense, La Habra struck for two touchdowns in the first eight minutes of Friday night’s 32-12 nonleague victory over Downey Warren at La Habra High.

The high-powered Highlander offense, led by the running of Jesse Giovannetti and the passing of Robert Morales, scored more than 30 points for the third consecutive week to remain undefeated at 4-0. The four victories mark the team’s best start since 1973.

“Warren was not prepared for our no-huddle offense,” Morales said. “But give our offensive line all the credit because they stepped it up tonight.”

The Highlanders scored on their first possession when Morales threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Paul Summers. After a long punt-return by Giovannetti, Kevin Hastin rushed three yards for La Habra’s second touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Warren (1-3) responded early in the second quarter after a Highlander fumble. Anthony Zamora rushed seven yards for a touchdown and cut the lead to 14-6.

With 15 seconds remaining in the first half, Morales threw his second touchdown pass, an eight-yarder to Nick Armstrong and La Habra led at halftime, 23-6.

La Habra’s defense, led by Dennis Petersen, Jerry Poucher and Randall Martinez, forced three turnovers and held the Bears to 55 total yards in the second half.
