A 10-year-old boy was in critical condition Saturday night after being shot in the head through a car window, authorities said.

The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. at Sherman Way and Whitsett Avenue, said Bob Collis, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The boy was reportedly sitting in a car, but it was not immediately known whether the attack was a drive-by shooting or he was the intended target, according to authorities.

The boy was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Collis said.
