A Reversal of Fortune for Huskies

For three quarters, the Washington Huskies were frustrated offensively until two reserves pointed the way to the end zone.

Reserve quarterback Brock Huard threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Pathon with 12:56 to left to break a 6-6 tie and backup tailback Corey Dillon added a touchdown run two minutes later as Washington defeated Stanford, 27-6, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Saturday.

“It’s a tremendous credit to the team that we got better as the game went along,” Washington Coach Jim Lambright said.

The Huskies (3-1 overall, 2-1 in the Pac-10) lost two fumbles and had a pass intercepted in the first half and had Dillon’s seven-yard touchdown run in the third quarter called back because of a holding penalty.

Stanford (1-3, 0-1) was held without a touchdown for the second consecutive game, settling for two field goals by Kevin Miller. The Cardinal was limited to 59 yards rushing and its quarterbacks were sacked six times.

Huard threw a 42-yard pass to Pathon to open Washington’s go-ahead touchdown drive. Pathon was wide-open in making the touchdown reception.

Stanford’s Adam Salina fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Kai Bynum recovered the ball at the Cardinal 13. The Huskies used four runs by Dillon to get into the end zone for the second time.
