Desert Wind Train Gets a Reprieve

Share

Four Amtrak routes, including the one between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, have gotten a reprieve from plans to scrap them Nov. 10.

President Clinton last week signed a $82.5-million federal spending bill for Amtrak that includes funds to keep the routes going for six more months, according to Clifford Black, Amtrak’s director of public affairs.

The routes are: Desert Wind between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City (via Las Vegas), Pioneer between Seattle and Denver, the St. Louis-to-San Antonio leg of the Texas Eagle and the Lake Shore Limited between Boston and Albany, N.Y.
