Lecture to Spotlight Women of the West

Share

Cal State Northridge history professor Gloria Lothrop will discuss “Significant Women in the Old West” this afternoon at Los Angeles Valley College.

The talk will be part of the college’s regular Historical Museum Assn. meeting at 3 p.m. in the cafeteria conference room.

Lothrop has researched women’s achievements in the West, including their role in the construction of churches, schools and hospitals. An example she cites is Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, an Italian nun sent by the pope to America in the late 19th century to assist Italian immigrants. She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized.
