Surgeons removed a bullet from the head of a Westminster man who was shot Saturday night outside a Beach Boulevard pool hall, police said Sunday.

Hieu Trung Nguyen, 24, remains in intensive care at UCI Medical Center in Orange, said Lt. Rich Paddock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“The bullet, luckily, did not penetrate the skull,” Paddock said.

Witnesses told police the incident began shortly before 8 p.m. when a Honda Accord drove up to Tri-Q Billiards, 11951 Beach Blvd., and two Asian men got out and started to vandalize another Honda Accord in the parking lot, Paddock said. The men were breaking the windows and slashing the tires, and the noise brought customers, including Nguyen, out of the building, Paddock said.

At that time, a white and silver Toyota Supra drove up to the pool hall and a passenger fired three shots. Two hit the wall and the third hit Nguyen, Paddock said.

The incident remains under investigation.
