An 18-year-old Newbury Park man was stabbed several times in the face and head during a fight Monday morning at a Newbury Park gas station.

The victim, Ramiro Barajas, had been using a pay phone outside the station in the 500 block of Ventu Park Road around 7 a.m. when he was confronted by a male attacker, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said the attack was not gang related. “It was a love triangle-type thing,” said Det. Ernie Montagna of the Sheriff’s Department.

During the brawl, the attacker--who is believed to be 23--drew a knife and wounded Barajas below his right eye and inside his left ear. Barajas also suffered a broken nose and bruises to his face and body.

After the fight, the attacker fled the scene and Barajas ran to a nearby store for help. He was transported by ambulance to Columbia Los Robles Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Sheriff’s Department officials said the assailant is still at large. An investigation is continuing.
