Devils’ Stevens Serves Suspension
New Jersey defenseman Scott Stevens was suspended by the NHL for one game for high-sticking Igor Larionov in the season opener against the Detroit Red Wings. Stevens, also fined $1,000, sat out Monday night’s game at Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Flyer star Eric Lindros did not play Monday against the New Jersey Devils because of a lingering right groin injury that may sideline him until next week.

Left wing Basil McRae, 35, an enforcer with 15 years’ NHL experience, signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. . . . The Vancouver Canucks signed minor-league goaltender Mike Fountain to an NHL contract after placing netminder Corey Hirsch on injured reserve because of bruised ribs.
