William Prince; Broadway, Television, Film Actor

William Prince, 83, actor perhaps best remembered in the title role of the television soap opera “Young Doctor Malone.” Long respected as a Broadway stage actor, Prince also appeared on dozens of television shows beginning with the anthology series “Philco Playhouse” and “Armstrong Circle Theater” in the 1950s. He appeared as Dr. Malone from 1958 until 1963. During the 1940s, Prince worked in Hollywood, performing in such films as “Destination Tokyo,” “Objective Burma” and “Cyrano de Bergerac.” He enjoyed another round of popularity as a character actor in films of the 1970s including “Network” and “Bronco Billy.” After graduating from Cornell University, Prince served an apprenticeship with the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Va. He made his Broadway debut with that company performing “Eternal Road” in 1937, and later starred in “I Am a Camera” opposite Julie Harris, and in several plays by Eugene O’Neill and Edward Albee. On Tuesday in Tarrytown, N.Y.
