Life Is Better Out of the Jet Stream

Teemu Selanne would probably live in Arizona now if not for the events of last Feb. 7, when he was traded from the Winnipeg Jets to the Mighty Ducks.

Fans in Phoenix probably don’t realize what they lost, but Selanne arrived Friday morning leading the NHL in scoring after four games, with 10 points on four goals and six assists.

The NHL made its debut in Phoenix on Thursday after a 102-degree day--about a 140-degree temperature difference from a midseason night in Winnipeg, the team’s former home.

“It’s too hot for me,” said Duck defenseman Fredrik Olausson, another former Jet.

Left wing Ken Baumgartner, who suffered a partial separation of his right shoulder Thursday during a fight with Colorado’s Brent Severyn, returned to Anaheim on Friday.
