Pasadena Council Member Proposes Ban on Sale of Inexpensive Handguns
The Pasadena City Council plans to discuss a possible ban on the sale of inexpensive handguns, known as Saturday night specials, at an upcoming meeting.
Councilman Paul Little said he proposed the discussion out of exasperation with the number of “people getting shot in Pasadena.”
Little hopes that the discussion--scheduled for Oct. 28--will lead to a weapons ordinance similar to those in West Hollywood and Los Angeles.
“West Hollywood did it and moved forward with it,” said Little, who would not speculate how the rest of the council would respond to such a proposal.
The Coalition for a Nonviolent Community, an organization studying the Los Angeles ordinance, has not made a request to discuss the matter with City Council, and members say the proposal is “ahead of our curve.”
“It is encouraging to see that one of the council members initiated discussing this himself,” said Ibrahim Naeem, executive director of the coalition.
