A man authorities believe was involved in two previous bank holdups robbed a pair of Oxnard banks Tuesday, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber entered the Channel Islands National Bank at 300 Esplanade Drive about 10:50 a.m. and handed a demand note to a teller, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Gary Auer said.

The man said he had a gun, although he did not show it, and the teller handed over the cash, Auer said. The thief was last seen walking from the bank.

About 5:30 p.m. the same man is believed to have robbed the Bank of America branch at 1855 N. Oxnard Blvd., again showing a note and claiming to have a gun.

“That’s No. 4 for him now,” Auer said. “We would like to think we catch them before they do four, but most bank robbers are on narcotics and they will keep robbing until we catch them.”

The man is described as a Latino about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a light complexion and a slim build, Auer said. During the robberies, the man was wearing a dark baseball cap and a light plaid flannel shirt.

The man is believed to have also robbed a Home Savings Bank in Port Hueneme on Sept. 23 and a Santa Barbara Bank branch Sept. 16, Auer said.
