Seven northeast San Fernando Valley chambers of commerce will join together in Sylmar on Thursday to raise scholarship money for Los Angeles Mission College.

At a business mixer, Bill Norlund, interim president of Mission College, will address chamber members and representatives from a host of Valley service and government organizations, including the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, the county library, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

College officials will also screen Mission’s new promotional video, “Mission Possible,” at the mixer.

“The chambers will donate gifts for a drawing, and the money raised from the drawing will be used to fund a scholarship for students at Mission College,” said Rosalinda Gonzalez, Norlund’s assistant.

“It’s a very generous offer on their part,” she said. “We hope to raise up to $1,000.”

Participating chambers of commerce include Arleta, Pacoima, Sylmar, Sunland-Tujunga, Sun Valley, San Fernando and Mission Hills.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. in the art gallery of Sylmar’s Veterans Memorial Park.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend, chamber officials said.

“It’s important to get all the people there we can,” said Doris Jacobs, president of the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“The more tickets we sell the bigger the scholarship.”
