Barry Injured in Magic Win

Is there life after Shaq for the Orlando Magic? The better question might be, is there any life left in the Clippers?

Granted, Tuesday night’s 96-91 Clipper loss to the Magic before a sellout of 17,248 at the Orlando Arena was only an exhibition game. But the Clippers, in falling to 1-2 in the preseason, were unable to handle a Magic team, not only playing without departed center Shaquille O’Neal, but also Tuesday night without injured guards Anfernee Hardaway (left hamstring), Nick Anderson (bronchitis) and Brian Shaw (Achilles’ tendon).

The Clippers not only lost the game, but may have also lost guard Brent Barry, who left the game in the third quarter after suffering what was thought to be ligament damage to his left thumb.

Orlando forward Dennis Scott led all scorers with 25 points, to lead the Magic to their second win in as many games. Guard Malik Sealy led the Clippers with 17.

Felton Spencer, trying to fill the large shoes of O’Neil at center, had four points and 14 rebounds in 28 minutes on a night when Orlando outrebounded the Clippers 55-41.

Former Laker forward Derek Strong had eight points for the Magic, but he was only one for seven from the field.
