Police Seek Clues in Shooting of Girl

Police investigators are searching for clues in a seemingly random shooting in which a 13-year-old Ventura girl was hit by a bullet in the leg while she slept at home earlier this week.

The girl, whose name was not released at the request of her parents, was in her room asleep a little after 1 a.m. Tuesday in the family home on the 600 block of Montgomery Avenue when she felt a sharp pain in her thigh, said Sgt. George Morris, an investigator with the Ventura Police Department.

A bullet, most likely fired from the street, went through her front bedroom window and struck her in the leg, Morris said.

“We’re really at a loss to explain why,” he said. “We know from the trajectory of the bullet that it was likely fired from the street or sidewalk.”

The department is asking that anyone with information about the shooting call Investigator Sean Conroy at 339-4478.
