USC to Help Launch Dental Program

The USC School of Dentistry would help launch a dental hygiene program at Oxnard College, under an agreement approved by trustees of the Ventura County Community College District.

The agreement calls for USC to help college officials organize and administer the program. Oxnard College, meanwhile, agreed to grant the university a participatory role in developing the hygiene program.

“It’s exciting to see this kind of program coming on board,” said trustee Norman Nagel, a Thousand Oaks dentist who has spearheaded the program.

“We should be doubly proud to be associated with USC,” joked Nagel, who teaches part time at the rival UCLA dental school.

College district officials plan to have the new program available to Oxnard College students as soon as next fall.

The agreement approved earlier this week calls for Oxnard College officials to spend $10,000 over the next year planning the program and pursuing formal accreditation from the American Dental Assn.
