A 91-year-old man who ran a red light was killed and two others were injured Thursday morning in a four-vehicle pileup, police said.

Roland Dassignies of Costa Mesa was driving west on 18th Street about 9:30 a.m. when he ran the light, Police Officer Wayne Riedmann said. He was struck on the driver’s side by a pickup truck heading north on Placentia Avenue, Riedmann said.

Both vehicles slid into the southbound lanes of Placentia and sideswiped a sedan, which then struck a motorcycle, hurling the rider about 20 feet, police said.

The motorcyclist, Gary Wilson, 20, suffered a leg fracture, and the pickup driver, 37-year-old Alfonso Granados, suffered internal injuries, Riedmann said. Both men, of Costa Mesa, were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach and are expected to recover from their injuries, authorities said.
