SANTA ANA — An 18-year-old Santa Ana man was shot in the head and killed as he sat in a car at an intersection Saturday evening in an apparent gang-related confrontation, police said.
The shooting occurred when two cars pulled alongside each other at a stoplight at Bristol Street and McFadden Avenue shortly after 7 p.m., said Lt. Dave Petko.
The four young male occupants of one car and the six people in a second car began staring at one another and making obscene gestures, Petko said.
“One thing led to another, and someone in the first car with the four youths fired once into the second car and hit the right front passenger in the head,” Petko said.
The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was killed instantly, Petko said. After the shooting, the first car fled east on McFadden Avenue and the second car stopped to call police, he said.
