Desatoff Leads Cypress to Victory

Vedda Desatoff had two goals to help unbeaten Cypress beat Orange Coast, 3-1, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer game Tuesday at Orange Coast.

Lori Harris put Cypress (8-0, 2-0) ahead, 2-1, when she collected a pass near the top of the penalty box, dribbled between two Pirate defenders and drove the ball past goalie Kim Rudloff in the 36th minute.

Desatoff, who leads Cypress with nine goals, scored in the 28th minute when she blasted an 18-yard shot into the top of the net to tie the score, 1-1.

She gave the Chargers a 3-1 lead with a drive into the right corner of the net from 10 yards out midway through the second half.

The Pirates (8-2-2, 1-1) stayed in the game early in the first half thanks to Rudloff, who had six first-half saves and 11 in the game.

Orange Coast, the defending conference champions, took a 1-0 lead on their first scoring opportunity.

Heather Parsons won the ball near the left corner of the penalty box then rolled a shot toward the corner of the net that Jessica Funke poked in at the 25th minute.
