Triplets’ Mom Says She Will Rise to Occasion

It was never unexpected. Fact is, Darlene Dosch had known for months about the three young lives growing in her womb.

But when she gave birth to three girls late Wednesday morning, Dosch said it was a feat that pales in comparison to the daunting tasks of the next 18 years.

“I think I’m somewhat in denial,” said Dosch, as she recovered from the births at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. “It’s pretty shocking.”

All three girls entered the delivery room with 10 fingers and 10 toes, and healthy sets of lungs, the new mother said. The babies were conceived with the help of in vitro fertilization.

“They all went straight into the regular nursery, which is somewhat unusual,” Dosch said. She and her husband, Kent, a Ventura native and a dealer in sports trading cards, are already the parents of a 2-year-old boy. They live in Ventura.

Midafternoon Wednesday was not too soon to name the three little girls.

Big sister Summer arrived at 5 pounds, 11 ounces; Paris Alexandria weighed in at 4 pounds, 15 ounces; and little sister Elise checked in at 4 pounds, 12 ounces, Dosch said.

The triplets’ grandfather, Murray Dosch, said the three girls bring the number of grandchildren in his family to 17.

“We’re really thrilled,” said the elder Dosch, a retired state oil and gas regulator.

“I guess it really is reality,” he said. “They tell you you’re going to have triplets and you go through nine months of it, but the reality is when they finally get here.”

The mother said she is confident she will be fully able to nurture each child. “It is going to be quite a challenge,” she said. “I’m not up for it right at the moment, but I will rise to the occasion.”
