Lillian Melvin Haase; Former College Teacher

Lillian F. Melvin Haase, a former teacher at Ventura College, died at a convalescent home Monday following a brief illness. She was 88.

Haase was born Nov. 10, 1907, in Missouri. She lived in Ventura for 54 years.

She taught for 18 years at Ventura College, then retired in 1968.

She was a member of the Pythian Sisters of Ventura No. 57 and the Ventura Fuchsia Society. In her spare time, Haase gardened and made crafts. She presided as a judge over the sewing contest at the Ventura County Fair for many years.

Haase is survived by her brother, Garland “Bud” Baker of Ventura; grandson Bradley Melvin of Valencia and granddaughter Lenelle Davis of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., both of whom she raised; three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. The Rev. Charles Maloney of Camarillo Christian Church will perform the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
